The Art/Dance Academy is an art gallery and performing arts school dedicated to presenting, preserving and educating the general public on ethnic culture and folklore of various world forms. It was formed and officially opened on January 25, 1998. During 1997 classes were offered at Dance North County in Encinitas, Ca. Prior to their opening, Morwenna & Walid Assaf operated Scheherazade Studios from 1975 in Boston, New Bedford and Fall River in Massachusetts, as well as Providence, RI and various locations throughout Cape Cod. We are a non-profit Education Organization specializing in Middle Eastern Dance (BELLY DANCE CLASSES) and  Arabic Music, and classical dance. We are a "Not for Profit: educational corporation registered in the state of Rhode Island since 1984. Registered on Dunn & Brad Street and hold a annual renewable government contract to produce festivals of cultural background for the military.
We also offer ethnic dance classes in other forms. Ballroom, Flamenco and Polynesian. Our instructors are hand picked for their knowledge and quality of teaching experience.

The Art/Dance Academy Complex is home to the Dance  Company  Raks El Anwar, "Dancers of the Light". Academy students have an open invitation to audition for the company once they have achieved a certain level of proficiency. Open audition calls are every year and are open to dancers with an interest in learning more about the dance and wanting to perform with others at a professional level. The works produced are choreographies by such greats as the late La Meri and Ibrahim Farrah. Yousry Sharif, Morwenna Assaf and others are. also presented. We use live percussion when possible to add to our affect. The ZEFFET Group is a troupe that just does Arabic weddings in the traditional style.


 C*E*D*A*R (Cultural Ethnic Dance Arts Repertory) Productions, A talent agency that  produces shows of all cultures throughout Southern California and beyond. This part of the company was formed in 1998 to facilitate the USMC. We produce shows for all types of organizations having the best performing companies throughout Southern California at our disposal. So regardless of the type of entertainment you are looking for, we can provide it. Not only do we have our own in house dancers and percussionists for Middle Eastern, Flamenco and Polynesian shows, we also boast one of the best Arabic Disc Jockeys in the area. We have the best in quality and sound for all your entertainment needs, including sound and special equipment. We have shows for all occasions from home parties to conventions.
