It is with the greatest pleasure that we
introduce this ***STAR***
to you.
Cali Farrah
Our star of this month is a relative
newcomer who is getting her start in Middle Eastern Dance. She is
aspiring to greatness as a teacher and performer. Her name is Cali
Farrah she came to Middle
Eastern Dance with an extensive dance background but she is relatively
new in our circle. She arrived at Art/Dance Academy Complex with most
peoples idea of what this dance is all about but quickly dissolved those
thoughts. She came to this dance looking for something new. Here was a
dance form where she could learn, get a real dance class and eventually
even perform. She has done that and more.
Cali
has studied dance fro a very young age. Even discovered she took ballet
from a very lovely lady in La Jolla that Morwenna Assaf "her latest
mentor" studied with as a teenager. She also has studied Jazz and
Rhythm tap. One of her teachers choreographed Chorus Line and Flash
Dance. She continued to study dance at Palomar College, City College and
Mira Costa College. doing musical theater. She is a trained
Ballroom teacher and taught for Arthur Murray but states that was not
her thing because she wanted to dance not sell. She has done local
theater and dinner theater. Was the Assistant to a Producer at MGM
Studios but that was too superficial a lifestyle for her. d her to Raks
Sharki. This dance is her life saver. She thought her life as a
performer was over. It is far from over, it is just beginning.
Cali is a member of Raks El Anwar which keeps a very busy schedule.
Between rehearsals and shows there is enough time to teach 4 classes a
week at the Oceanside Studio. She takes at least 3 classes a week plus
the rehearsals. Since coming to this dance form she studied with the
Master of Flamenco Antonio Vargas who she found has the same philosophy
as Morwenna. He was the choreographer for Strictly Ballroom and Mission
Impossible 2. She will be certified R.A.I.S teacher by April.
She is equally qualified as both teacher and performer. She is a real
inspiration to her students. As a performer she has no favorites over
style. She loves both Orientale and Folklore. She is a pleasure to
watch. Her petite form fits all styles. Her philosophy is to give her
all to the dance, to do her best for both her students and the audience.
To be the best at both teaching and performing that she can possibly be.
Her future is to take all the classes she can. Everyone needs a Master.
Dance is a visual art. "I love this dance she says. At ADA I get
real dance classes. I get real choreography. I have learned about the
culture, the language, the food and the people of the Middle East. What
a gift! My gift in return is to be the best I can. Why, be good when you
can be great?"
