It is with the greatest
pleasure that we introduce this ***STAR***
to you.
Miranda
This month we have the pleasure to introduce a fairly
new member to Raks el Anwar as our ***STAR*** of the month.
Miranda is a young lady with an interesting background. She started her
dance life at the age of seven taking ballet classes and then years
later took to studying jazz where she could be freer in her movements In
high school she volunteered as a teachers’ assistant. Her teacher ended
up leaving to have a baby and Miranda took over the classes and taught
the choreography to the 25 girls. This actually became her first
teaching job. The future was being scouted out. In reality by 5th grade
Miranda knew in her soul that she was to dance forever. Also in high
school Miranda also studied acting and usually ended up with the dancing
part. Reality was set in motion. "I just remember dancing and loving
it. Dance is an expression of pure love, joy and passion".
Miranda remembers a girl in high school who was not very nice but she
envied the commitment she gave the dance and the results it produced.
This has encouraged Miranda to give it all she has. This is so evident
in the dancer she is aspiring to be. Taking a class with Elena Lentini
at ADA last summer reinforced the fact that commitment is a must. Elena
is a true artist. That can only be achieved by commitment. Also she
learns a lot form her fellow company members who are also totally
committed to this dance.
Miranda has now been at Art/Dance Academy for the past 2 years. Before
coming to ADA Miranda took classes with both Luisa and Dondi. She takes
several calsses per week plus at least two rehearsal sessions a week
also. She works hard and has achieved her R.A.I.S. Level 1 this past
April. Her favorite dance style is cane preferably in Saiidi Dance. She
loves the music, attitude and the drama it presents. Theatre dancing is
her favorite venue. It is the lights. She admits there is always so much
to learn. Not only to be able to teach but in studying the dance to both
perform on stage, in restaurants and at events. This includes solo
improvisational work as well as group choreographies.
Her future plans are to travel to NYC and study with the greats there
specifically, Nourhan Sharif, Dalia Carella, Elena Lentini and Yousry
Sharif. Eventually to travel abroad and perform and study. This is in
fact a reality as Miranda is leaving on a trip to Portugal, Spain and
Morocco this summer. It will be a dance, study program. One day she
would like to be in the position to be able to produce large scale shows
in Arabic Dance. To get people to have better knowledge of Middle
Eastern Dance through cultural understanding. Miranda’s message to new
dancers is one needs to practice and study with the best one can. Learn
all you can about the culture and the people. This dance will make you
more aware of how your body and spirit works and how it relates to
movements with the most moving music in the world.
